The Axe Valley Visiting Scheme

This project in the Axminster provides a visiting service to people aged 60+ years living both in their own homes and in residential care homes, and in receipt of health and social care services.

The aim of the project is to alleviate social isolation and improve the health and well-being of people who may be feeling out of touch, lonely and isolated for a variety of reasons such as ill heath,  bereavement, life changes, or lack of family/ friends nearby.

Volunteers are not asked to do any personal care, domestic or medical tasks. It really is all about social contact.

The project is recruiting volunteer visitors from as wide an area as possible. All training and necessary expenses are provided. All that is needed is people who are able to be a friendly face, a listening ear, able to see the bigger picture and to offer a regular time commitment of one or two hours a week. Applicants also need to complete a DBS check.

The project is coordinated by  Gill Amos for Axminster and Districts (All Saints, Chardstock, Dalwood, Hawkchurch, Kilmington, Membury, Shute, Stockland and Uplyme).

They accept referrals from Health and Social Service agencies and provide ongoing support and oversight throughout the match.
